Logró el puesto número #1 en la lista “Billboard Hot 100” durante 3 semanas, también alcanzó el puesto número #1 en la lista “Hot Black Singles” y los Billboard la colocaron en el puesto número #5 del año 1983. La canción cuenta con 8 certificaciones de platino, con aproximadamente 11 millones de copias vendidas alrededor del mundo. “Beat It” recibió dos premios Grammy, los cuales son “Record of the Year” y “Best Male Rock Vocal Performance”.

El video musical logró que Michael se posicionara como una estrella del Pop a nivel internacional. Este video pasó a ser uno de los clásicos del rock gracias a los pasos de baile que utilizó Michael durante el video. El video se rechazó por parte de las financieras de esa época debido a su costo, el cual al final fue de $150,000 dólares.

El video se centra en la supuesta pelea de dos bandas rivales, mientras que Michael expresa que la violencia es algo absurdo por lo cual decide ir a interrumpir esa pelea, cuando las bandas están a punto de pelearse Michael interfiere y allí es donde se comienza a apreciar el baile por parte de todos los personajes que están en la escena.
